Meat: The Greatest Gift of All

Meat: The Greatest Gift of All

Come the holidays, being a pitmaster means there's absolutely no shortage of gifts to choose from to bring a smile to my face. With such a breadth of grilling related products, it can be a chore separating the useful from useless, and delightfully kitschy from the cringe inducing (nice rack?). I've put together a short list of things I've recieved, or wish to get, that are sure to add extra warmth to the fire burning in your special griller's heart.

Planking

aFire Grilling Planks

For a thin piece of wood, I always thought grilling planks are ridiculously overpriced. Of course, if someone gives them as gift, who am I to complain. If you're going to be planking, you also might as well do it in style with these aFire planks that are cut with the bark intact, adding extra presentation points into your planked goodies.

Insulated Gloves

Insulated Gloves

I'm done waiting for my pork butts to cool to a reasonable temperature for me to pull them without danger of being burned. That's why on the top of my wishlist this year are some insulated barbecue gloves, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be happy to get a pair of these for handling hot meat.

Butcher Chart

Vintage Butcher Charts

I'm entranced by maps, and butcher charts or just like meat maps, which make them double awesome. Vintage charts not only make great wall art, but are informative and a nice reference to have hanging around.

Pigchasher

Pigchaser Sauce Pack

So many brands of barbecue sauce stick to one main recipe with only minor variations between varieties within their line. Pigchaser is different, showing an understanding that a fruit sauce is different from a spicy sauce, and tailors each recipe accordingly. This Pigchaser multi-pack gives a sampling of this with three different offerings: Original, Pineapple/Mango, and Habanero.

Thermocouple

Thermoworks Two-Channel Thermocouple

I haven't ventured over to digital temperature regulators for my Weber Smokey Mountains yet, but I do keep a watchful eye on the smoker and meat temps with the Thermoworks Two-Channel Thermocouple. With two probe channels, an alarm, and the trusted accuracy of Thermoworks, this is just as indispensable as my Thermapen, and that's saying a lot.

Weber Rotisserie

Rotisserie Attachment

The single greatest grilling gift I've ever gotten was the Weber rotisserie attachment. You may not realize you need it, but once you have it, you'll never be able to live without it. Slow rotating meat self bastes and cooks evenly to create delectable chickens, ribs, gyros, and so much more.
